I decided to ask a few of my friends to give me their picks. These are people I have met via Tequila, many I have known for years and have developed great friendships with. A few I have only known online but recently I was able to meet in person, share stories and sip some amazing Tequila with thanks to the Monterey Bay Tequila & Cuisine Expo this past year. If you have never been you need to!
Next up is someone I go way back with I have had opportunity to watch his growth, his traction and his respect in the industry. When we get on the phone it can be for hours at a time talking life, family and of course Tequila. He is a true student of Tequila!
At the end of the read make sure to watch his video "Best Tequilas Under $40"

Blanco: Calle 23 Criollo
Simply the best non 110 proof blanco I've ever tasted in my life. Criollo is very bold, sweet and flavorful. It has a complicated tasty profile of anise (licorice), smoke, tons of cooked agave sweetness, baking spice, floral and citrus notes and drinks so easily for a 98.6 proof. It's absolutely stunning, so silky & buttery, pleasant, and absolutely mouthwatering to sip. The higher alcohol punch is there, but it is different because it simply rolls down your throat in a sweet, silky, amazingly delightful and flavorful way.
Sticking with Fortaleza - As always, bold and complicated, a little caramel, vanilla and balanced perfectly. This just a typical amazing Fortaleza.
Anejo: Azunia Black
This 'Black Anejo' is special stuff. It is smooth and silky to sip, with nice caramel and vanilla, but it's not overpowering and very balanced. I even get a delicious cherry and honey aroma, with light smoke, roasted nuts and fruit.
Extra Anejo: Alquimia 100 pr 14yr XA
Plenty of agave notes and has a bold and feisty taste.
